d/e/a/d/b/e/a/t press mission statement –

The mission of d/e/a/d/b/e/a/t press is develop, promote and increase the visibility of the written word through the discovery of new and unheralded talent previously unpublished or published in a limited format; to enhance literature in an economical, accessible and professional manner; and to bring to the front talent that other presses are too chickenshit to consider.

What is d/e/a/d/b/e/a/t press?

…is a collective of writers striving to bring recognition to underrepresented writers and poets.  dbp is a for profit S-corporation.  dbp will have a board of directors as well as a panel of readers.  dbp will not ever accept unaccomplished work.  dbp will have a rigorous process for approval.  dbp will never accept unsolicited material as a whole, rather selection will be based on discovery.  don’t worry, we will find you.  further, dbp will utilize the journal, Alabaster & Mercury as a means to acceptance.  dbp will never ever sell out to corporate gods, unless the money is really good.  dbp will always strive for the highest integrity; ethics are key.  dbp will never censor a writer for topic, race, color, creed, religion, orientation, gender, clothing choice, hair length, tattoos, piercings, music taste or food manners.

in the end dbp is designed to a place for writers to grow and expose themselves.  and if we can expose you without getting arrested we will.


Goals:

Physical
-    to publish between 4 – 6 books of poetry per year
-    to publish between 6 – 10 chapbooks per year
-    to publish trade style lit mag 2-4 x per year
-    to sponsor/promote readings in major West Coast cities
-    to promote/develop literacy programs in local schools
-    to promote business and trade through local book fairs ie – LA Times Book Fair, PS Book Fair, WeHo Book Fair
-    to develop a marketing plan for the press that utilizes AWA, Poets&Writers, various trades, Dustbook, CLMP and related

Mental
-    to develop strong writing skills, marketable wordsmiths, and strong sense of a stylized self
-    to enhance the current resurgence of poetic writing
-    to contribute to a community of writers that exist primarily in the underground

Spiritual
-    to become a positive contributing force in an expanding array of lyrical & poetic voices that exist in the margins of a consumer society; to create epic vistas of extraordinary scope and tone; to boldly go where no small press has gone before; and reach our and slap the face of god
-    to reach beyond the pedantic daily nine to five bullshit same-same pithy simplistic vision that exists in modern society and become something more
